Hillsdale Academy boys soccer back in district final; Jonesville's breakout year ends

A milestone season for Jonesville boys soccer came to an end, while Hillsdale Academy will play for the district title on Thursday.

HILLSDALE COUNTY — The Jonesville and Hillsdale Academy varsity boys soccer have completed their district semifinal matchups for Division 4, District 57, but only one team will be making the trip to Stockbridge on Thursday, Oct. 16, for the championship game.

Hillsdale Academy, under coach Neal Brady, is looking to win its sixth straight district title after defeating Jackson Lumen Christi 5-2 at Hayden Park.

The Titans had a tall order ahead facing the Colts, who have been surging. The team hasn't lost since Sept. 27, when it dropped two close games to top five-ranked Division 4 teams.

The Colts' offense is putting together some of its best soccer at the right time, and now is positioned in a favorable district final against Jackson Christian.

Jackson Christian used a second half surge to put away Jonesville 5-0. While the Royals have defeated their district opponents in a scoring differential of 13-0, the Royals will be going up against a Colts team that defeated them 3-0 in the regular season.

The game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Stockbridge High School. Tickets can be purchased online via the MHSAA's preferred ticketing website. The winner will face the victor of District 60, where the semifinalists are Allen Park Cabrini, No. 9-ranked Allen Park Baptist, No. 12 Detroit Cristo Rey and No. 7 Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett.

Milestone season closes for Jonesville

Coach Jeff Dice talks to the team and seniors about the season, memories made and lessons learned after their playoff loss to Jackson Christian.

The Comets had one of its best seasons in more than a decade, finishing with a 12-7-1 overall record.

This included an 8-3-1 mark in the final 12 games. It was the end of the high school career for seniors Talon Moore, Carsen Cornila, Marshall Baker, Wyatt Brooks, Donovan Baker, Cameron Moore, Lucas Kyser Cole Trumper and Kyle Covey.

"It’s just a great group of guys," coach Jeff Dice said. "They helped turn the program around. You know, we went from when they were freshmen … we didn’t win a game. So we’re zero for the season. And then to see the progression, 5-5, and this season 12 wins. I mean, you can’t say enough about them — the passion, the grit, the determination."

The season took multiple classes to build, and now this year's seniors pass the torch to the next generation. With each class that comes through under Dice, there were always the conversations and the long bus rides that carried as a throughline.

“The bus ride’s home, I enjoy them. I sit and chat with kids. So it’s those things that you miss. Hey, man, everybody’s going to lose except the last team. So everybody’s season ends the same way ours just did. And so, you know, you hang your hat on the relationships you build.”

The team will return several playmakers in 2026, including goalkeeper Kaleb Males and sophomores Landon Chruch and Charlie Spencer.
