Bild reports that Liverpool are interested in Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck as they look to bolster their backline.
The 25-year-old’s deal at the Westfalenstadion expires in 2027, and BVB are trying to extend his contract, but there has yet to be a breakthrough. If an agreement fails to be reached, this summer could be the last chance Dortmund have to sell the defender before he can leave on a free.
This has prompted interest from teams, with Bayern Munich naturally showing interest in Schlotterbeck, as they had previously tried to sign him before he made the switch from Freiburg to Dortmund. Now, Liverpool are also showing an interest in the German international.
Liverpool’s plan with Schlotterbeck:
The Premier League champions see Schlotterbeck as the successor to captain Virgil van Dijk, whose contract also expires in 2027 when he will be 36. The Dutchman plays on the left of Liverpool’s defence, but is right-footed, while Schlotterbeck is left-footed.
Following the ACL injury to Giovanni Leoni, the Reds were even interested in trying to sign the German i the winter, but this was ruled out by Dortmund.
