Shakthar Donestk Marlon Gomes seen as Xaver Schlager’s replacement at RB Leipzig

Sport Bild reports that RB Leipzig have found their replacement for midfielder Xaver Schlager if he refuses to sign a new contract at the club. 

Leipzig still wants to extend the contract of the Austrian, but he has yet to decide on his future, with his current deal expiring in the summer. Previously, he has stated his desire to play in the Premier League. 

Under Ole Werner, the Austrian has been used regularly alongside compatriot Nicolas Seiwald before picking up a muscle injury. 

Now, with the future of Schlager uncertain, at the Red Bull Arena, they have begun to prepare for a potential departure and have seemingly found his replacement.

Leipzig’s successor:

Schalger’s targeted successor will be Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Marlon Gomes. The Bundesliga side had shown interest in the Brazilian in the summer, even reaching an agreement with the 21-year-old over a move.

However, the two clubs could not reach an agreement on the transfer fee, with Leipzig not wanting to pay the €30m for Gomes.
