The top-ranked Mendon volleyball team recently celebrated its seniors, multiple milestones and pink night wins came for other area teams on the court.
MENDON — The Mendon volleyball team celebrated its senior night on Tuesday with visiting Climax-Scotts in town.
The Hornets, who are the top-ranked Division 4 team in the latest Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association poll, swept the match in convincing fashion.
With the win, the Hornets wrapped up their third consecutive SCAA West Division title.
The final scores were 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23.
"This was a great night to honor our seniors who have put in so much work over the last seven years in this program," Mendon coach Kenny Herbert said. "We would not be where we are today without each one of them."
Gracie Schultz led the team with 21 kills on the night. Cienna Nightingale added 14 kills with 10 digs, Brooke Gerth scored three aces with dive digs and Jadyn Samson totaled 18 digs with three assists. All four played as seniors.
Michelle Gomez Sanchez added four digs, Lashell Blair totaled six kills with three blocks and Kayrssa Holtz passed out 35 assists with 10 digs.
Centreville edges Decatur
Centreville won the final two sets over Decatur to claim a victory on Tuesday.
"I am really proud of how the girls overcame the adversity of being down 2-1. Our crowd was great and it felt like we were back home in our own gym," Centreville coach Deric Mostrom said. "Every girl did something to help the team win tonight and I appreciate there hard work."
Mary Stears had a team-high 21 kills with 19 digs and two blocks. She served up the final two points for Centreville to win the fifth set at 15-13.
Kalli Sneed handed out 33 assists with 11 digs and two kills, Katurah Younts scored five kills. Drew Alexander finished with 29 digs, Arianna Six had five aces with 18 digs as well.
Colon beats Bellevue
The Colon volleyball team beat Bellevue in three sets on Tuesday. In the match, Jillian Stabler finished with her 750th career dig. She finished with 14 digs in the match and had five aces.
"She has been working hard this year as our libero, putting her body on the floor and placing the ball into our setters hands," Colon coach Michelle Walkinhood said. "She truly loves the game and gives it her all."
Raegan Thaxton totaled nine kills with nine digs, Peighton Stouder added six kills while Amaya Johnson had four kills and 16 assists. Maddison Kulpinski scored four kills while Braelyn Thaxton totaled 13 assists with eight digs and three kills. Caraline Eells and Piper Groff both scored three kills.
Chiefs claim Dig Pink win
The White Pigeon volleyball team won on a Dig Pink evening over Comstock in three sets.
Kenlee Schrader totaled 22 assists with six kills and nine digs, Sadie McDaniel had a team-high 12 kills. Addison Smith had 20 digs, Kadance Smith totaled 11 kills.
"A great night for a great cause. The night was full of pink and fun and finished with a Chiefs victory," White Pigeon coach Melissa Gales said. "I continue to be impressed by these girls and love how we are playing at this part of the season."
Bronson wins in four sets
The Bronson volleyball team beat Concord in four sets on Tuesday. The Vikes won the opening two 25-21 and 25-14, but Concord claimed a 25-16 win in the third. The fourth went Bronson's way at 25-16.
Aleah Brackett scored 19 kills with 14 assists and 12 digs. Itzel Albarran totaled 18 assists with 11 digs, Roni Bir finished with four kills and 11 digs, Jaisee Wilson totaled three kills and three blocks. Hermosa Gonzalez registered four kills with 12 digs, Hadley Wagaman added four assists and 23 digs.
Constantine wins Tuesday
The Constantine volleyball team beat Parchment in three sets on Tuesday. The Falcons held Parchment to three points in the first set, seven in the second and won 25-22 in the third.
“The girls adjusted well and didn’t get caught standing or watching which is hard in a slower-paced game. The first two sets they took control with their serves and serve-receive," Falcon coach Tiffany Lewis said. "We were able to run some different things on offense in preparation for the state tournament. All 10 girls were able to get plenty of time on the court and lots of touches."
Jaedyn Herlein led with 12 kills, Jaelyn Buglione had seven. Raeann Michalek totaled five and Agathe Longree had four. Anndee totaled 25 assists. Buglione and Kate Jones both had four aces.
Centreville beats Colon in finals in Athens
The Centreville volleyball team beat Colon 25-15, 25-15 in the finals in Athens on Saturday. Head coach Deric Mostrom was pleased with his team's performance on the day.
"Even though we always want to end on top after a long day like that, the girls did well and we accomplished a lot through the day," Mostrom said. "We started the day off really well. Playing some of our most consistent and efficient ball of the season. It was fun seeing all the results from practice and really concentrating on the basics."
Centreville beat Reading, Colon (the first time), Jackson Christian, Athens and Colon again on the day.
Kalli Sneed registered 69 assists with six kills and eight aces with 21 digs. Keturah Younts had six kills, Arianna Six finished with 33 digs. Drew Alexander totaled a team-high 68 digs while Emma Perez recorded nine kills.
Adyson Mastny scored 17 kills with 10 digs and five blocks. Kalee Griggs had 12 kills with six blocks and Nikki Lennard finished with 32 digs for the Bulldogs.
White Pigeon wins in Battle Creek
The White Pigeon volleyball team took first place at Battle Creek Central on Saturday, beating Montague, the host Bearcats and Hastings. Kenlee Schrader totaled 11 kills with 25 assists, nine aces and 21 digs to lead the way.
Sadie McDaniel had a team-high 16 kills, Addison Smith recorded 62 digs with seven assists. Grace Bontrager scored nine kills, Mable Post added five kills and 18 digs.
Last week's action
The Hornets recently beat Burr Oak in three sets as well. Kayrssa Holtz finished with her 500th career assist in that one. She passed out 39 for the match. Schultz had a team-high 20 kills while Nightingale scored 15.
Constantine handled its business against Gobles on Thursday, winning comfortably in three sets. Jaedyn Herlein scored nine kills while Evans passed out 18 assists.
Last week, White Pigeon beat Cassopolis in four sets. Schrader had 28 assists while Smith totaled 52 digs defensively.
Centreville beat Marcellus last week in prep volleyball in three sets. Drew Alexander recorded her 1,000th career dig in that match. She finished with 13 on the evening. Mary Stears led the team with nine kills.
Last week, the Falcons dropped a four-set match to Kalamazoo Hackett. Herlein had 10 kills to lead the way, Evans passed out 24 assists.
Recent activity on the volleyball court
Constantine saw a couple of milestones recorded recently. Anndee Evans reach 500 career assists in a win over Lawton while Herlein earned her 500th career kill in the Nikki Blatter Tournament. She finished with 38 kills on the day.
Sturgis beat Paw Paw in five sets recently. Oxender recorded 14 kills to lead the Trojans in that one with Cary registered 13 kills. Patrick sent out 25 assists in the win.
White Pigeon took care of Climax-Scotts recently as well, winning in five sets with a 15-13 fifth-set score. Schrader handed out 36 assists with 27 digs, Post led with 14 kills.
Three Rivers dropped a match to Edwardsburg last week in three tough sets. Southland led with 16 assists and 14 digs, Glass recorded six kills. Three Rivers also beat Niles recent in four sets. Southland handed out 26 assists with 10 kills. Glass registered eight kills.
Burr Oak also won over Pansophia recently in three sets. Hines totaled 10 kills to lead the way. The Bobcats also dropped a match to Mendon.
