The national high school football scene took another turn last week we take a look around the country for some of the top games taking place.
There’s a number of solid matchups from California to New York and down south to Alabama and Florida. Here’s a look at the 10 biggest national high school football games you won’t want to miss from Oct. 15-18.
Skyridge (Utah) at American Fork (Utah)
When: Wednesday, Oct. 15, 10 p.m. ET
Where: AFHS Stadium, Springville, Utah
It seems like every week there’s a intriguing matchup going on out of the Beehive State and this time it’s between Skyridge (6-2) and American Fork (6-3). American Fork leans more towards a balanced offensive attack, led by senior running back Prince Afu, who has rushed for nearly 800 yards and nine touchdowns. The Falcons features three-star quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne, who has been terrific throwing the rock this fall, throwing for 2,204 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Massey Prediction: Skyridge 42, American Fork 26
Monsignor Farrell (N.Y.) at Iona Preparatory School (N.Y)
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Wellington Mara Field, New Rochelle, New York
We start off up in the Empire State with two of New York’s top high school football teams collide on Friday night in New Rochelle. This contest is shaping up to being a possible Game of the Year as it pits New York’s No. 1 vs. No. 4 ranked teams. Iona Preparatory School (6-0) features senior three-star running back Crew Davis (686 yards, 10 touchdowns), a North Carolina commit, in the backfield for the Gaels. Looking to lead the charge for the Lions on defense to slow down Davis is EDGE Cole Savino, who has 10 tackles for loss and five sacks this season.
Massey Prediction: Iona Preparatory School 42, Monsignor Farrell 14
Hun School (N.J.) at No. 3 St. Frances Academy (Md.)
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Under Armour Stadium, Baltimore, Maryland
One of the best out of New Jersey versus Maryland’s No. 1 ranked team takes place in Baltimore this Friday night. If last week was any indication, St. Frances Academy (4-1) is beginning to play some of their best football of the season. The Panthers rolled to a 60-0 rout of Connecticut’s St. Thomas More and look to be clicking on all cylinders. Hun School (5-1) won their first five games before losing to Virginia’s The St. James Academy, 30-14.
Massey Prediction: St. Frances Academy 42, Hun School 13
NFL Academy (U.K.) at No. 2 IMG Academy (Fla.)
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. ET
Where: IMG Stadium, Bradenton, Fla.
IMG Academy (6-0) has seemingly played everywhere but near Bradenton, but that all changes this week when they host their first game of the 2025 season against the NFL Academy of the United Kingdom. Head coach Greg Studrawa has this IMG Academy team playing very balanced offense football behind the right arm of sophomore sensation Jayden Wade, who has thrown for 943 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. The NFL Academy just played St. Thomas Aquinas in London last week, narrowly falling to the Raiders, 41-38.
Thompson (Ala.) vs. Hoover (Ala.)
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, Hoover, Ala.
This really could be a matchup we see again come the playoff time in Alabama’s Class 7A as both programs have remained in the running among the state’s best. Last year’s meeting between the Alabama powerhouses needed additional time as the Warriors edged out the Buccaneers, 27-26, in overtime. Thompson (6-2) has won two straight and their two losses on the season have been by a combined five points total. After a difficult 1-3 start to the season, Chip English’s Hoover Bucs have picked up steam with three consecutive victories.
Massey Prediction: Thompson 41, Hoover 14
Hamilton (Ariz.) at Pinnacle (Ariz.)
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 10 p.m. ET
Where: Pinnacle High School Football Stadium, Phoenix, Arizona
No game down in the Grand Canyon State can matchup to this one as Arizona’s No. 3 and 5 teams square off in the desert for what should be a barn burner. Hamilton(6-0) has looked nearly unstoppable offensively by one of the top Class of 2028 wide receivers in four-star talent Roye Oliver, who has hauled in 45 passes for 822 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Pinnacle (5-1) secondary will need to rise to the occasion if they look to have any chance of tripping up the Huskies, with senior defensive back Brayden Fricke (three interceptions) and junior Xavier Thomas patrolling the back end.
Massey Prediction: Hamilton 44, Pinnacle 20
No. 1 St. John Bosco (Calif.) at No. 14 Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.)
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 10 p.m. ET
Where: Saddleback College Stadium, Mission Viejo, Calif.
Could we see Santa Margarita Catholic pull another Houdini out of their proverbial bag this week? Not that it really takes magic for the Eagles to win, but more aligning with the magical season they have played thus far. Former NFL Pro Bowler Carson Palmer has done stellar job in his first season at the helm of his alma mater and looks to lead his Eagles to what would be a third signature win, the other two being a 33-27 overtime victory over No. 10 Corona Centennial and a 7-6 defensive slugfest against No. 11 Mater Dei. Flipping to top-ranked St. John Bosco, the offense has been a tough cookie to crumble as the Braves have received tremendous play from sophomore quarterback Koa Malau’ulu (1,226 yards, 20 touchdowns).
Massey Prediction: St. John Bosco 41, Santa Margarita Catholic 14
West Linn (OR) at Lake Oswego (OR)
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 10 p.m. ET
Where: Cobb Field, Lake Oswego, Oregon
The No. 1-2 teams out of the state of Oregon clash on Friday night in what could be the best game of the national slate. Last year the two programs met twice, with Lake Oswego (6-0) winning the regular season meeting, 21-17, but West Linn (6-0) taking Oregon’s Class 6A Open state championship, 44-30. Junior four-star cornerback Josiah Molden leads the Lions’ defensively as they go up against a potent Lakers’ offense led by Utah commit LaMarcus Bell and Washington State pledge Hudson Kurland.
Massey Prediction: West Linn 40, Lake Oswego 21
Archbishop Moeller (OH) at St. Edward (OH)
When: Saturday, Oct. 18, 3 p.m. ET
Where: First Federal Lakewood Stadium, Lakewood, Ohio
College football might be rampant throughout the country on Saturday, but one of the top matchups on the high school end of things will be taking center stage in Ohio that afternoon. The Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders’ (6-2) offense has been rolling behind the play of Kentucky commit Matt Ponatoski behind center. St. Edward (7-1) counters with a balanced offensive attack, led by the quarterback-running back duo of Jonny Evanchick (1,118 yards passing, 19 touchdowns) and Brandon White (1,066 yards rushing, 14 touchdowns).
Massey Prediction: Archbishop Moeller 28, St. Edward 20
Miami Southridge (Fla.) vs. Miami Central (Fla.)
When: Saturday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Traz Powell Stadium, Miami, Fla.
Though Miami Central (5-1) fell to rival Miami Northwestern back on Oct. 4, 30-21, it will be the Rockets representing in the Greater Miami Athletic Conference (GMAC) championship game on Saturday night against undefeated Miami Southridge (8-0). The Rockets have bounced back nicely this season and remain a contender for Florida’s Class 3A state championship as the biggest threat to the Bulls repeating. USF commitment James Perrone (1,841 yards, 20 touchdowns) has been superb behind center with Ole Miss pledge Ryan Miret anchoring the offensive line.
Massey Prediction: Miami Northwestern 42, Miami Southridge 18
