ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester were invited to the Red Wings’ newly renovated club house and learn about everything baseball.

Kids tested their skills in the batting cages and even learned from the Red Wings about different career opportunities in baseball, from coaching to data analytics.

Leaders from both organizations said it’s about making the all-American sport accessible and affordable for everyone.

“Anytime we can expose them to this type of baseball opportunity yeah we uh you know we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do that,” said Dwayne Mahoney, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester.

“I think at our core what we do is create access for kids and families to really make the most out of any situation so we’re able to bring these kinds of tools to Rochester and do it in an affordable and accessible way,” added Morrie Silver, Red Wings Director of Innovation.

Kids even got a visit from the Red Wings’s mascot — Spikes!
