4 local teams advance in first round of volleyball state playoffs

The volleyball teams of Calvary Day, Savannah Christian, Islands and South Effingham won their first round playoff matchups on Oct. 15.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The volleyball teams of Calvary Day, Savannah Christian, Islands and South Effingham won their first round playoff matchups on Oct. 15.

Calvary Day got off to a slow start against Prince Avenue Christian. They lost the first four points. However, they came back to win in straight sets, 3-0.

Savannah Christian got off to a fast start against Atlanta International, a team with only eight wins on the year. The Raiders win, 3-0.

Islands won the first two sets against Southeast Bulloch before running into trouble in the third. The Lady Sharks led by as many as seven points in the frame before Southeast Bulloch stormed back to tie the match at 24. The Lady Yellow Jackets would take the set, 26-24. However, Islands advances to the second round, 3-1.

Out in Guyton, South Effingham defeated Apalachee, 3-1. With the match tied at one game, the Lady Mustangs took control in the third set.
