Joe Cole is a great pundit when speaking about Chelsea because he’s so often put on our games that he really knows what he’s talking about and has the full context of everything around the club.

TNT Sports’ preview of the next stage of the season showed that perfect. On the subject of Chelsea, Cole pointed out that the biggest moment of their season so far actually came before a ball was kicked:
“I think losing Levi Colwill just before the season started was massive,” the former winger said.
“You know when centre-halves – you look at them and you go: ‘they’ve got to that level; they get it’ – like it happens with all the great centre-halves, like Rio [Ferdinand], from the player who’s at West Ham to the one who went to Leeds and then to Man United. John Terry eventually, they all get there. Levi Colwill for six games [at the end of last season], I thought he was there now; he’s going to be top. So that was a big blow, and not replacing him is a massive blow.”
It certainly got desperate against Liverpool in our last game when we ended up with four full backs as our defence by full time. That situation should improve dramatically now, but missing Colwill is going to continue to be an issue.

In other news…
Chelsea are back in action on Saturday in the early kick off, and for once it’s not one we’re dreading after an international break.
With Colwill, out, there’s a lot of discussion about who will play in defence for Chelsea in that game against Nottingham Forest. We make our predictions here.
