Will Taylor Decker play vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? The Lions LT is back at practice and could play Monday.
The Detroit Lions hope to get Taylor Decker back on the practice field this week with the possibility of him returning for Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Decker has missed two games with a shoulder injury that's nagged him all season and has barely practiced since training camp.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said Decker will not practice Thursday, but could return to the field Friday. Decker last practiced Sept. 19 and has taken part in three of 18 practices since the Lions began issuing an injury report the first week of the regular season.
“We’d like to (get him back out there)," Campbell said. "I think if we can get him going a little bit tomorrow, see if we can do that, we’ll do that. He’s feeling better. But we’ll see."
Decker started the first four games of the season at left tackle before the Lions sat him for games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs.
Campbell said he hoped giving Decker rest now would help him stay healthy for later in the season.
The Lions (4-2) host the Bucs in a battle of two of the best teams in the NFC this week, then have a bye in Week 8.
Roster moves
The Lions signed defensive back Jammie Robinson from the Chiefs practice squad to the 53-man roster and re-signed safety Loren Strickland to the practice squad Thursday.
Campbell said Robinson, who played in six games with the Carolina Panthers last season, can play both safety and slot cornerback but likely will start at safety, where the Lions likely will be without starter Brian Branch (suspension) and backup Avonte Maddox (hamstring) this week.
"We liked him coming out (of the draft) and Brad (holmes) and I were talking – Brad’s kept an eye on him for a while, always kind of tracked where he’s at, when he’s been available, and so to be able to poach him and get him for a few weeks here is, it’ll be good to get a look at him," Campbell said. "He’s aggressive, pretty tough kid."
