The No. 1 Fossil Ridge volleyball team keeps beating elite contenders, scoring a second straight top-5 win with a 3-set sweep over a local rival.
Who's beating this Fossil Ridge volleyball team? Nobody in Colorado right now, at least not yet.
The top-ranked SaberCats got a second top-5 win in three days, sweeping Class 4A No. 2 Windsor out of their home gym in a 27-25, 25-22, 25-19 win on Oct 16.
Fossil Ridge (17-2, 8-0 league) keeps mowing down elite contenders this season, with this being a seventh win against a top-10 opponent.
And it's another high-level performance after beating three-time reigning 5A champion No. 3 Valor Christian in four sets on Oct. 14.
The SaberCats are now 12-0 against Colorado competition this season, dropping just three sets in those dozen matches.
It was a dominant week, but this wasn't a dominant sweep as far as three-setters go.
Windsor was up 16-8 in the first frame and held late leads in each of the first two sets before the SaberCats buckled down and made late charges.
After an evenly-played start to the third, Fossil asserted itself and pulled away in the third to seal a season sweep over the Wizards.
Despite replacing a half-dozen graduated senior staples and replacing their coach, the SaberCats may be better than ever this season.
Regular-season matches remain against Poudre, Greeley West, Fort Collins and Loveland over the next few weeks before regional play starts Nov. 7.
The state tournament, where Fossil Ridge has made two straight Final Fours with a runner-up finish in 2023, runs Nov. 13-15 at the Denver Coliseum.
