TU high school football expert James Allen answers questions

3:00 p.m.: Ahead of tonight's action, Times Union sports reporter James Allen has answers to several questions.

Question: Who are the top running backs in Section 2 this year?

Answer: A few that stand out from the Class AA ranks are Ben Coryea (Saratoga Springs), Tommy Toher (CBA) and Kahlil Beckett (Albany). In Class A, Peyton Marshall is having an excellent season for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. The dominant running back in Class B has been Jordan Baker from Glens Falls, who ran for over 1,500 yards in 2022. Colin Pickering has scored 22 touchdowns in six games for Fonda-Fultonville.

Q: Who are the dark horse teams in Class B?

A: Averill Park dropped contests against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk and Glens Falls, so far, but I would not count out the Golden Knights to make their presence felt in the sectionals.

Q: Who is the best Colonie football QB you've ever seen?

A: When I started as a reporter, Tony Valenti was the guy at Colonie. Mark Shea helped the 1998 and 1999 teams enjoy success, and Caleb Eastman produced a strong three-year run for Colonie from 2021-23.
