Chelsea are looking to build a new stadium or expand Stamford Bridge on the current site and Matt Law has provided an update on the situation.

Updates have been few and far between on the stadium, and it appears Chelsea have two options available to them.

Todd Boehly has previously said Chelsea might not have a new stadium until 2042, but it’s impossible to escape the reality that the Blues don’t have a stadium befitting of their status as a club.

The current capacity at Stamford Bridge is 40,173, the smallest of any of the traditional top six clubs, whilst Everton and Sunderland also have bigger grounds.

The stadium is an important issue, and any proposed move to a new site will have to be voted through by the Chelsea Pitch Owners.

Earls Court would represent the best solution which doesn’t disrupt match day for supporters, and Law has provided an update on the situation.

“I had thought at one stage, that there was a chance that in November, we would know whether the Earls Court development site would still be open to Chelsea or not,” he told The London Is Blue Podcast.

“Having investigated a little bit and not fully, because we’re still a few weeks away from it, I don’t quite need to yet. But having investigated a little bit, I don’t think it is going to be a meeting that finalizes everything on it.

“You’ve got to remember that I still think the plans are plans that can be amended even if they go through. So even if the full planning permission and full plans were put through, I think they are still plans that are allowed to be amended. So look, it could move on a little bit.”

Earls Court answer in November?

It looks unlikely anything will be locked in for Earls Court in November, but Law revealed there’s a meeting next month Chelsea will keep an eye on.

“Don’t get me wrong. It could take a step further towards the Earl’s Court development as it is becoming what it is. But I don’t think it will be locked in in November.

“But there is a meeting in November, which Chelsea will definitely be sort of keeping an eye on and which has, let’s say some significance. But I don’t think it’s going to decide anything from what I gather.”
