Early in the second quarter of a game on Saturday, Montie Quinn burst through a gap, shook a tackle and evaded two more defenders on his way to a 30-yard touchdown. It wound up being his seventh-longest drive of the day.

In total, the Division III Curry College running back posted 522 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on only 20 carries, an average of 26.1 yards per attempt. Oh, and he chipped in a catch for five yards.

That yardage mark broke the NCAA single-game rushing yard record across all levels, outdistancing the previous record of 465 yards held by Cartel Brooks of Division III Heidelberg University set in 2014.

Quinn posted touchdowns of 64, 30, 76, 84, 58, 2 and 85 yards in a 71-27 win over Nichols College. He could have had more too, but Curry held him out for its final two offensive drives.

In total, Curry rushed for 633 yards and outgained Nichols 733-436.

Per Boston 25 News, Quinn credited his blockers and coaches after the game:

“I’m just humbled and grateful. Breaking the record is something I never imagined coming into today,” Quinn said. “The O-Line was dominating all game, receivers were blocking like crazy, and coaches put us in position to make plays. This belongs to all of us. I just happened to be the one carrying the ball.”

On the season, Quinn now has 1,450 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in seven games, an average of 241.7 yards per game. It's an otherworldly performance in the lower level of college football, but hardly a surprise for a player who was an All-American last year and a D3football.com preseason All-American going into this year.
