Andrée Jeglertz says he’s learned a lot about his side following our League Cup penalty win over Newcastle United.
City drew 3-3 but picked up the bonus point thanks to a 6-7 win in the shootout, secured by Laura Blindkilde Brown’s strike after Demi Stokes had seen her effort saved by Khiara Keating.
The Blues had looked on course to picking up all three points in Gateshead when going 3-1 up in the second half but had to settle for two after a late fightback from the hosts.
Jeglertz was disappointed that we couldn’t reach our usual standards against Newcastle, but is hopeful the players can take some of the lessons from the tie into our next game after the international break.
“No matter what, I think we still have to win the last game [against Nottingham Forest] so I think it's just about the result, but we need to make sure we're better in a situation where we are.

“In these kinds of games, the opponent is bringing so much energy, so much power that we need to be able to deal with that in a better way.
Play faster, but also being more determined with what we're doing with the ball.
“We also learned a lot from this. We learned about our team also, where we're really good, but also how we can manage [better].
“Because this is something we haven't experienced in other games, so we just need to learn from it and take it into the next game.”
Jeglertz was also quick to credit our opponents for making life difficult for City in difficult conditions.
Newcastle came into the tie buoyed by late equalisers in each of their last two games, and took an early lead when Lois Joel found the top corner from distance.
And when we raced into a two-goal lead, they continued to battle and ultimately earn a point.
He added: “They were fighting from minute one throughout the whole game. I think our game today wasn't good enough.
“We turned it around from a goal down to lead 3-1 and we just need to make sure we kill the game then, protect the 3-1 lead, and we didn't.
“On the other hand, it's strong from the team to come back and win on penalties.”
