LINCOLNTON, GA (WJBF)- The Lincoln County Red Devils are the only football team left standing in the CSRA. They’ll be competing for a 1A D2 state championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday against Bowdon.

In the month of December, practicing playing in a state championship game is a privilege.

“It’s been something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. I’m glad I get to do it my senior year,” said defensive lineman Jeremiah Wynn.

“It means a lot. We got close my freshman year, went to the semi-finals, but it’s an honor to be able to go there,” said kicker and cornerback Fortson Partridge.

The 14-0 Red Devils have dominated all season long, breezing past each of their four opponents in the playoffs outscoring them 227-20.

“During the regular season we had our ups and downs, but we came through, stayed together, stuck together, listened to the coaches,” Wynn said.

“Their level of intelligence and taking the coaching and being able to lineup in the right positions and execute the plays well, it first starts in the weight room,” said defensive coordinator Parker Martin.

The team is seeking their first state championship since 2006. The coaches and players believe this senior class will be the ones to bring home some hardware.

“I was fortunate enough to have them in elementary school for a year before I came over to the high school,” Martin said.

“We kind of knew back then that this group was a little different athletically back then, at a young age you can tell, their level of togetherness, they play for each other.”

“This year we got really good leaders with the seniors, and you can tell that we really want it. If someone goes down, we always pick them back up and tell them to get back in there,” Partridge said.

It’ll be a challenge going up against a Bowdon team they lost to in the semi-finals back in 2022, but those seniors remember that loss like it was yesterday.

“It means a lot, I mean we’re trying to prove ourselves again. We want to show them that they can’t beat us twice,” Partridge said.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on Monday, December 15 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
