BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Alex Tuch scored 33 seconds into overtime to give the Sabres a 4-3 victory Tuesday night on the road against the Edmonton Oilers.

Josh Doan scored twice on the power play, Tage Thompson had a goal and two assists, Rasmus Dahlin added two assists, and Alex Lyon made made 21 saves as Buffalo snapped a three-game skid in winning for the first time on its season-long road trip.

Leading 3-0 going into the third period, the Sabres withstood an Oilers rally. Connor McDavid scored 10 seconds into the third and got the tying goal with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation. Vasily Podkolzin also scored for Edmonton in the opening minutes of the third.

The Sabres won without two of their top six forwards, Josh Norris and Jason Zucker, and with goaltender Colten Ellis being removed from the game due to injury in the first period.

Tuch got his fourth career overtime goal on a wide-open shot from the slot set up by Ryan McLeod’s backhand pass from the left wall.

Thompson scored his 14th of the season when he stole the puck from Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard and beat goalie Stuart Skinner with a snap shot from the edge of the crease. Thompson appeared to score moments earlier, but the goal was overturned when officials ruled that Tuch passed the puck with his hand and there was a missed game stoppage. It was Thompson’s second disallowed goal in as many games.

Lyon replaced Ellis in net for the Sabres six minutes into the game when NHL concussion spotters removed Ellis after he took a hit to the head.

Norris was scratched due to illness and soreness. Tyson Kozak moved into Norris’ spot centering the second line. Isak Rosen was called up from Rochester to fill in for winger Zucker, who is week to week with a lower-body injury sustained in a 7-4 loss at Calgary on Monday night.
