Former Premier Soccer League (PSL) star Elias Dominguez Pelembe has won the league title with UD Songo in his native Mozambique.

Songo secured the championship with five games to spare, and made it a total of four Mocambola titles, having been crowned champions in 2017, 2018, and 2022.

Luis Miquissone, who signed for Mamelodi Sundowns during the 2017/18 campaign but never played, is also part of UD Songo and is in contention to win the Golden Boot in Mozambique.

Meanwhile, this is Pelembe's fifth league title of his career as he achieved the same feat in South Africa with both now-defunct SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits, in addition to Sundowns.

On the other hand, aged 42, Pelembe is set to become the second oldest player at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as he was named in Mozambique's final squad for the tournament.

Other prominent names in the squad include Polokwane City midfielder Manuel Kambala, former Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove, Sunderland's Reinildo and Geny Catamo from Sporting Lisbon.

Mozambique face defending champions Ivory Coast in their Group F opener on 24 December, before tackling Gabon and Cameroon.

The Mambas will be competing in back-to-back continental showpieces, but before that last competed in 2010 in Angola, where Pelembe was part of the squad.
