Notre Dame cornerback Mark Zackery joins the basketball team

From the gridiron to the hardwood, Zackery IV adds guard depth for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Mark Zachery was one of the best high school basetball players in the state of Indiana as well as one of the best cornerbacks in the country. Zackery chose to come to Notre Dame with the dream of playing both… and it’s happening.

Mark Zackery IV Added to Men’s Basketball Roster

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Glenn & Stacey Murphy Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry announced the roster addition of Mark Zackery IV on Thursday afternoon. Zackery IV is fresh off his freshman football season at Notre Dame, but is no stranger to the game of basketball. The former Indiana Class 4A state champion and Indiana All-Star will provide immediate depth to the point guard position.

“I think that Mark will be a great addition to our program,” Shrewsberry stated. “I have seen him play many times throughout his high school career. Whether competing with Team Teague, Indiana Elite, or Ben Davis High School, he always does things that help lead to winning. He will be an asset for us with his ball handling, playmaking, and defensive abilities. More importantly, he is a great young man that will add more value to our locker room and culture.”

A 5-11 guard out of Indianapolis, Zackery IV guided Ben Davis High to a 33-0 record as a sophomore, culminating in a state championship. The two-time Indy Star Super Team selection  scored 16 points in the state title game.

During said 2022-23 season, Ben Davis High defeated Penn & NorthWood to win the Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic for the second time in school history – Zackery IV was named the Tournament MVP.

Zackery IV almost pulled off the two-peat as a junior, as Ben Davis finished as state runner-up. He averaged 11.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals over the course of the 2023-24 season, shooting 39.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Zackery IV was also no stranger to the AAU scene, where he played with Indiana Elite in the summer of 2024 – the same AAU club as current Irish teammates Logan Imes and Braeden Shrewsberry. That same summer, Indiana Elite finished as Adidas 3SSB 17U national runner-up.

Furthermore, in the summers of 2021-23, Zackery IV played point guard with Team Teague. Some highlights there include: Big Foot 16U Classic champions in 2023, the Prep Hoops 15U national champion in 2022, AAU 14U national champion in 2021 and the 2021 Chris Paul Rising Stars Top 25.

The Fighting Irish return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 13, when they host Evansville at 2 p.m. ET inside Purcell Pavilion.
