The Rangers have reportedly agreed to terms with a pair of pitchers
The Texas Rangers have agreed to one year contracts with righthanded reliever Alexis Diaz and lefthanded reliever Tyler Alexander, per reports. This news broke literally as I hit publish on the post regarding the Rangers agreeing to a deal with Danny Jansen. No financial terms on the deals with the pitchers, which I assume are major league deals, and for probably not a whole lot more than the league minimum.
Diaz, 29, came up with the Cincinnati Reds, and had three successful seasons for them in the pen from 2022-24 before having an awful 2025 season which saw him put up an 8.15 ERA in 17.2 IP for the Reds, Dodgers and Braves. His struggles in 2025 were due to not missing bats and giving up bombs — 6 homers in 17.2 IP, a 3.1 HR/9 ratio. Even in his 25 innings in AAA, he had problems, allowing a 5.61 ERA.
Diaz is a fastball/slider guy who walks a lot of batters, allows a bunch of fly balls, and, in 2022-23, struck out a lot of batters.
Alexander, 31, went to high school at Southlake Carroll and college at TCU. The Tigers selected him in the second round in 2015, and he was with them until the Rays claimed him off waivers after the 2023 season. The Rays released him after 2024, and he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, who released him in June. Alexander then signed with the Chicago White Sox, for whom he finished the season.
Alexander has both started and relieved, although he’s mostly worked out of the pen the past three seasons. Since 2022, he’s put up a 4.91 ERA and 83 ERA+ in 350 innings over 127 appearances. He uses a five pitch mix, doesn’t walk or strike out many batters, and gives up a lot of fly balls.
