Inter Milan have already begun planning for the post-Yann Sommer era, and the name circled in red by the club’s hierarchy is Guglielmo Vicario.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper has emerged as Inter’s number one target to inherit the gloves from the former Bayern Munich veteran.

The Nerazzurri are not expected to make an immediate move, with the plan being to address the goalkeeping transition after next summer’s World Cup.

However, the Gazzetta stresses that Vicario would be open to a return to Italy and to finally wearing the Inter shirt.

Indeed, having already been close to a move to Milan before Sommer’s arrival two years ago.

The newspaper notes that “Vicario’s desire to return to Italy and eventually land at Inter is well known. With full gratitude for an English experience that has helped him grow both as a man and as a goalkeeper.”

That said, there is currently no negotiation underway, either with Tottenham or with the player’s entourage.

Spurs, for their part, “have no urgency or need to sell one of their strategic players.”

Especially given he remains under contract until 2028.

Inter hope the deal could be structured around a €20 million investment.

Indeed, a figure that would still allow the Premier League side to register a capital gain after just three seasons.

The Gazzetta adds that “support could come directly from the player,” who has built strong relationships within the Italy camp.

He is friends with the likes of Barella, Bastoni, Dimarco and Pio Esposito.
