Ohio State Quarterback Julian Sayin Comes Up Short for the 2025 Heisman Trophy

The Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin came up just short of winning the 2025 Heisman Trophy

The Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin came up just short of winning the 2025 Heisman Trophy after an incredible season.

While the voting deadline was Monday, December 8th, the decision was made on Saturday night after the Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis.

Indiana Hoosier quarterback Fernando Mendoza outplayed Sayin in that game and led the Hoosiers to a victory over Ohio State.

The result was not only the Big Ten Championship but it was also the Heisman Trophy.

Mendoza hoisted the award by beating out Sayin, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.

On the year, Mendoza finished with just south of 3,000 yards, along with 33 touchdowns to just six interceptions and catapulted the Hoosiers to the top seed in the College Football Playoff and the top overall seed after the season.

For Sayin, while he didn't finish the year with the Heisman Trophy, he put together one heck of a year. Sayin finished with 3,323 yards, 31 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He helped lead the Buckeyes to a flawless regular season with the only slip up coming at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Sayin came onto the scene in the toughest way possible. His first start as the Ohio State quarterback was a home one against the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns. Sayin wasn't special, but he didn't need to play elite football right out of the gate.

BREAKING NEWS: Ohio State's Arch Rival, the Michigan Wolverines Are in Yet Another ScandalBREAKING NEWS: Ohio State's Arch Rival, the Michigan Wolverines Are in Yet Another ScandalOhio State's rival to the north finds itself in yet another major scandal. Reports out of Ann Arbor are that Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore has been fire...

He was a solid 13-20 for 126 yards and a 40-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver Carnell Tate. The best thing that he did that day was manage the situation and never put the Buckeyes in danger. Little did everyone know that would be a precursor to his entire year.

Sayin's superpower is his decision-making. For a guy who has only played a very few amount of football games, he plays like he is a fourth-year starter. He constantly makes the right decisions and because of it, has the Buckeyes thinking about repeating as the National Champions.

Sayin's stand out performances were a 347 yard night against Ohio, a 393 four touchdown night against the Wisconsin Badgers, and his three touchdown day against the Michigan Wolverines.

Sayin didn't get to hoist up the Heisman Trophy this year, but this will not be his final chance at it. This is just his first year starting and his second full year in college football.

The truth is, the reason that he will be back is that he, like the rest of his teammates, are locked in on one thing only: the National Championship.

Sayin and the Buckeyes are up next on New Year's Eve in the Cotton Bowl against the winner of Texas A&M and Miami.
