The FC Bayern frontman felt that they could’ve gotten more from this match
Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw with relegation threatened Mainz in a match where Bayern unsurprisingly dominated but failed to make the most out of. Harry Kane scored a late penalty to save his team from embarrassment, or at least soften the blow, and reiterated how Bayern had the game by the neck but just couldn’t put it to bed.
“We were in complete control for the first 44 minutes and had many chances to score. The sudden equalizer just before halftime changed the momentum,” Kane admitted (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “We came out of the break dominant again but lacked the last touch. They then scored a nice goal, and we had to fight back. Mainz fought hard and gave it their all; they did a good job. We’ve had a lot of games in a short period, but that’s no excuse. Of course, we wanted to go into the winter break with two wins. A draw at home is disappointing, but we have to accept it and move on.”
While a draw isn’t a bad thing, the overall performance was. The Bavarians play their final match of 2025 against Heidenheim away, so Kane and co will want to go into the break on a high note.
