A new NBA rumor points to when fans should expect a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to go down, if it happens at all.

Outside of the Emirates Cup Finals this week, the biggest story in the NBA is about the future of Milwaukee Bucks legend Giannis Antetokounmpo. To begin the new week, the team that also includes big free agent addition Myles Turner, Kyle Kuzma, and is coached by Doc Rivers, owns a sad 11-15 record.

Their start to the season has been far below expectations, and it’s the impetus behind a recent report from Shams Charania that the two-time MVP and the team plan to talk about his future, and whether it should be in Milwaukee for the rest of this season.

If Antetokounmpo forces his way out of Wisconsin, many teams are expected to be in the chase for his elite services. Including franchises like the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, and Miami Heat.

Monday unofficially begins the start of the NBA trade season as many players around the game become eligible to be moved. Then, on January 15, even more stars will be available in a potential trade for the nine-time All-Star. So, could Antetokounmpo be traded before the new year, or will a deal have to wait?

On Sunday, veteran NBA insider Marc Stein shed light on when a blockbuster trade could be made. “I have spoken to some teams who continue to express the belief that the Bucks will indeed ultimately opt to field pitches for Antetokounmpo at some point in January ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline,” Stein wrote.

It isn’t too surprising the Bucks are in no rush to make a move, and Stein added that the league-wide assumption is Milwaukee won’t start fielding those offers until one of the greatest players in team history forces the issue.

The Greek legend is currently sidelined indefinitely as he deals with a nagging calf strain.
