Wisconsin loses another former starting linebacker to the transfer portal

The Badgers got a big blow at linebacker on Saturday.

The Wisconsin Badgers have taken some hits in the linebacker room, and that continued on Monday as former starter Christian Alliegro is entering the transfer portal after three years with the program.

Alliegro, a junior this season, had 49 tackles and four sacks, earning an honorable mention on the All-Big Ten list. He had been a first-year starter this season with Tackett Curtis, but began to rotate with freshman Mason Posa after suffering a broken hand.

Alliegro’s toughness was a part of his tenure at Wisconsin, as he had a physical play style as a 6’4, 245-pound linebacker. Wisconsin wanted him back in 2026 to complement Posa and Cooper Catalano, but the junior will hit the transfer portal for his final year of eligibility.

He finishes his Badgers career with 124 tackles and eight sacks, while making 11 starts over the past two years.

Wisconsin is already losing former starter Tackett Curtis, who also lost out on his starting role, but the Alliegro blow is a much more significant one, given the team’s plan for 2026.

Now, the Badgers may need to find some depth in the portal to fill behind Posa and Catalano.
