Kenny Pickett swarmed by Eagles pass rush as Raiders blanked 31-0; losing skid continues
The depths despair for the Silver & Black plunged to a new level on Sunday.
Try this: 42 total plays for a grand total of 75 yards.
That’s the Las Vegas Raiders’ production while the host Philadelphia Eagles racked up 387 yards on 66 total plays. Thus, the end result being a 31-0 Raiders loss wasn’t surprising. The defeat not only marks Las Vegas’ eighth-straight loss, but also the ninth double-digit demise.
Different quarterback, same disconcerting result for the Raiders as Kenny Pickett was under siege and dropped four times for sacks. The 27-year-old 2022 first-round pick finished 15 of 25 for 64 yards with one interception. But that passing total dips to just 29 yards when the sack yardage (35) is subtracted for that sum.
“I think their four-man rush was getting home and when they’re rushing four, dropping seven, it makes it
tough throwing the football, so we have to do a better job of getting the ball out of my hands. I have to
find guys earlier,” Pickett noted. “We have to win on the outside to help the guys out up front. The passing game, it is really three phases; protection, myself, and the guys running routes. So, we all have a hand in it and we all have to look to improve.”
The Raiders’ Week 15 lopsided loss was just another chapter in the book of misery. Competitive football has gone out the window the last five weeks as Pete Carroll and his football team are on a boat with no oar. And this 2025 rendition of the Silver & Black is reminding many of a hard-to-watch 2006 campaign.
The Eagles did whatever they wanted scoring in all four quarters and building a commanding 17-0 lead at halftime. And for the second-straight game, the opposition simply played keep away from the Raiders. Philadelphia’s time of possession was 39:25 compared to Las Vegas’ 20:35. When your offense averages just 1.8 yards per play (1.0 yards per pass average; 3.5 yards per carry average) while your defense allows 5.9 yards per play, the shutout loss isn’t at all surprising.
Another outing, another embarrassing result.
Curious how owner Mark Davis is taking this all in?
Let’s hit the quick slants as fast as the Eagles soared above the Raiders:
—Third down continues to be a horror show for Las Vegas. The offense went 3-for-12 on third down attempts while the defense couldn’t get a stop as the Eagles went 10-for-13 to extend drives. Both teams were 0-for-1 on their respective fourth down attempts, however.
—Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty led the ground game with nine carries for 35 yards (3.9 yard per carry average) with a long run of 11. In comparison, Eagles tailbacks Saquon Barkley (22 carries for 78 yards and one touchdown) and Tank Bigsby (17 carries, 57 yards) powered Philadelphia’s run game that totaled 183 yards.
—Brock Bowers paced the Raiders’ air attack with six catches for 27 yards (paltry 4.7 yards per catch average). He had a game-high eight targets. Rookie wideout Jack Bech had two catches for 17 yards while veteran wide receiver Tyler Locket had two grabs for 10 yards. Jeanty was targeted six times and finished with four catches for seven yards.
—Somehow, Las Vegas forgot about covering Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (six catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns). Wide receivers DeVonta Smith (two catches for 50 yards, long of 44) and A.J. Brown (two catches, 41 yards, long of 27, one touchdown) also took advantage of the Raiders defense.
—Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby notched a sack boosting his season total to 10. Meanwhile, veteran pass rusher Brandon Graham had two sacks while Moro Ojomo and Nolan Smith Jr. each notched a sack for the Eagles’ total of four.
Quote of Note
“I would never think – what would I base that thought on? That we would be really fighting for our life
here? I had nothing but wins, background, history and all of that to set our expectations and to maintain
the standards that we work by. That’s what we’re doing. We’re still doing that. We’re still practicing hard,
we’re still working hard, we’re still studying hard. The guys are giving good effort. They’re in the weight
room, they’re fighting their tails off. The only good thing that happened, we didn’t have anybody hurt
today. But they’re doing all we’re asking of them and this is the result against the world champs last year who maybe weren’t playing quite like that for a month here or whatever, but they looked like it today. It
looked like a great team today.”
—Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll after the 31-0 shutout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles
Up Next
The road trip continues for the Raiders (2-11) in Week 16 as the team heads to the Lone Star state to face the Houston Texans (9-5) next Sunday. The Texans come off a 40-20 beatdown of the Arizona Cardinals. Houston’s top-ranked defense suffocated Arizona and that doesn’t bode well for a Las Vegas offense that can’t get any semblance of consistency or traction.
