Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Inter Miami signed former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United defender Sergio Reguilon to a two-year contract, the Herons announced Monday.
Reguilon, 28, joined Spurs in 2020, but spent time on loan with United, Atletico Madrid and Brentford during that tenure. The veteran left back will occupy an international roster slot for the Herons, who lost defender Jordi Alba and midfielder Sergio Busquets to retirement this off-season.
"It's a very ambitious project, a winning club that is doing things the right way, and that's what attracted me: coming here to keep winning and competing," Reguilon said in a news release.
"My objective is to keep winning, go after the trophies we're missing, and win everything here."
Reguilon, a graduate of Real Madrid's academy, also played on loan with Sevilla during his time with the Spanish La Liga power. He made six appearances for the Spanish national team. His contract with Spurs expired last summer.
The Herons will meet LAFC in their 2026 regular season opener Feb. 21 in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. They are schedule to open their new stadium with a match against Austin FC on April 4 in Miami.
