Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has been ruled out for the final three games of the 2025 NFL season, marking the end of his sophomore campaign.
Monday afternoon marked the end of an especially disappointing sophomore season for Washington Commanders and former LSU football quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels, who won the Heisman Trophy for his outstanding performance at LSU in 2023, has been ruled out for the rest of the 2025 NFL season.
Daniels' rookie year showcased the high level of play that LSU fans were used to seeing from their former quarterback, as the human highlight reel willed his team to the NFC Championship and earned the offensive rookie of the year award along the way.
In his second year, however, things fell apart in Washington. Much of the team's aging defense hit a wall athletically, and what was a league-average unit in 2024 ended up closer to the bottom this year, as its 26.8 points allowed per game ranked 26th out of 32 teams.
Daniels’ receiving room was never healthy, as its star, Terry McLaurin, played in just seven games. The depth behind him wasn't great either, with 35-year-old tight end Zach Ertz ending up second on the team in receiving yards through 15 weeks.
Daniels himself dealt with injuries all year, missing Weeks 3 and 4 with a knee sprain, then a hamstring sprain that kept him off the field for another game. Week 9 ended up being the most gruesome injury of the year, however, as Daniels dislocated his left elbow in a blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Daniels managed to return to play five weeks later against the Vikings, but reaggravated the elbow injury early in the second half. He was ruled out for the remainder of the contest, and that ended up being his final game of the season.
Hopefully, Washington can find a way to put a quality roster around Daniels this offseason. He showed the world what he can do in both 2023 and 2024, but those years also showed that he can’t win on his own.
