Purple Row After Dark: What should the Rockies do about 2B?

It’s a key question for Paul DePodesta.

I began exploring this question in today’s Rockpile: What should the Colorado Rockies do about second base and infield support in general? (Considering Willi Castro’s candidacy seemed like a good place to start.)

In last night’s Purple Row After Dark, Colorado Springs Northsider suggested we look at second base, which seems like a good topic to pursue in this discussion.

In-house, the Rockies have Ryan Ritter and Adael Amador. Also, don’t forget that Tyler Freeman has experience at second base, and the Rockies have signed an MiLB deal with Nickey Lopez (31, 0.6).

With that in mind, here is the list of available free agents, again from MLB.com:

  • Willi Castro (29, 3.5)
  • Jose Iglesias (36, 2.3)
  • Dylan Moore (33, 2.3)
  • Ramón Urías (32, 2.0)
  • Luis Rengifo (29, 1.5)
  • Brendan Rodgers (29, 0.4)
  • Adam Frazier (34, 0.2)
  • Thairo Estrada (30, 0.1)
  • Coco Montes (29, 0.0)
  • Cavan Biggio (31, -0.1)
  • Kyle Farmer (34, -0.5)
  • Ronny Simon (26, -0.6)
  • Tyler Wade (31, -0.6)

(Except for Castro, none of these players appear on the salary projection list posted by MLB Trade Rumors.)

Note all the Old Friends: Jose Iglesias, Brendan Rodgers, Thairo Estrada, Coco Montes, and Kyle Farmer.

Let us know how you’d staff this position.
