Boys basketball roundup: East Lansing, Waverly, Charlotte stay perfect

The highlights from Dec. 16 games featuring Greater Lansing boys teams.

EAST LANSING 64, GRAND LEDGE 44

GRAND LEDGE — KJ Torbert had a game-high 21 points and added four assists and three steals for the Trojans in their CAAC Blue win over Grand Ledge. Kingston Thomas added 18 points and seven rebounds and Kellen Lott and Henry Peck each scored seven points for East Lansing (5-0, 2-0). Maddox Newburg had 15 points and Braden James scored 12 points for Grand Ledge (2-3, 2-1).

WAVERLY 95, EVERETT 64

Derek Thomas led the Warriors with a team-high 23 points in a CAAC Blue road win over Everett. Xavier Pendergrass finished with 21 points, Caden Ali scored 16 points and CJ Gomez chipped in 12 points for Waverly (4-0, 2-0). Marrion May led all scorers with 25 points, DJ Brown tallied 11 points and Logick Lyoya added 10 points for the Vikings (2-4, 0-3).

CHARLOTTE 68, LAKEWOOD 35

CHARLOTTE — The Orioles went on a 31-0 run that spanned the late stages of the opening quarter and the beginning of the second while breaking things open in their CAAC White victory. Evan Colosky had 12 points and seven rebounds and Brady Blair had 11 points to lead Charlotte (5-0, 2-0). Tyler Bowzer had 10 points and six steals, Mason Hudson had 10 points and eight rebounds and Drew Van Alstine had nine points for the Orioles. Skyler Oberlin had eight points to lead Lakewood (0-5, 0-2). JV score: Lakewood 35, Charlotte 27

IONIA 49, EATON RAPIDS 39

EATON RAPIDS — The Bulldogs went a 7-0 run to close out the game as they secured the CAAC White road victory over Eaton Rapids. Carter Ralston scored a game-high 16 point, Colt Piercefield tallied 11 points and snagged five steals and Aiden Washington chipped in eight points for Ionia (2-3, 2-0). Easton Nobach notched a team-best 14 points and Ryan Steele added on 10 points for the Greyhounds (0-4, 0-2). JV score: Eaton Rapids d. Ionia

PORTLAND 45, OLIVET 38

The Raiders outscored Olivet 20-4 in the final quarter while rallying to a CAAC White win over Olivet. Carter White led a balanced attack for Portland with 13 points, while Owen Moore had 12 points and Ethan Cassel added 10 points. Reece Critchlow had 12 points to lead Olivet.

SEXTON 78, LANSING CATHOLIC 51

Keyshawn Summerville led the way with 17 points and seven assists for the J-Dubbs in a CAAC White win over Lansing Catholic. Willie Brown added 16 points and three rebounds and Mario Murray had nine pints and five assists for Sexton (3-1, 2-0). Seth Hahnenberg finished with a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Zach Snitgen tacked on 13 points for the Cougars (1-2, 1-1).

HOLT 63, DeWITT 52

DeWITT — Mikah Williams led all scorers 16 points to help the Rams secure a CAAC Blue road win over DeWitt. Brandon Mercer picked up 15 points and Trevon Johnson tacked on 12 points for Holt (3-2, 1-2). Landon Kurncz and Rome Dunham each notched a team-best 11 points for the Panthers (1-3, 1-2).

ALMA 70, ITHACA 30

ALMA — Koby Shunk had 11 points and four rebounds to lead the Panthers (2-2) in a nonleague victory over Ithaca (0-4). Lucas Ramirez contributed 10 points and three assists for Alma, which jumped out to a 23-4 lead in the opening quarter en route to the win.

JACKSON NORTHWEST 85, MASON 78
