‘My feeling right now is good’ – More from Pep Guardiola on his future

Pep Guardiola says his current feeling is that he wants to continue as Manchester City manager until at least the end of his contract.

Guardiola’s current deal with the club expires in the summer of 2027, but The Athletic have reported that there is a growing feeling that this could be the Spaniard’s last season at the club.

“I know my business perfectly, what I am, in this position, always,” Guardiola said when asked again about his future.

“I come here in the press conference every few days, you can ask me about my time, and the answer is always the same. 

“Last season was a really, really tough season, and I didn’t give up, I was there. This season is much better in terms of many things I see, and still I’m here. 

“It depends on my feelings. My feeling right now is good. That’s why I want to continue. It’s going to change? Maybe. I don’t know, but what I’m feeling now is not (that).

“I’m going to, with the players, continue as long as possible.”

Guardiola insists the challenge of working with new players is keeping him motivated, continuing: “New staff motivate me, new players motivate me, of course. If I play with the same players for 10 years, I will be tired of them, and you cannot imagine how they should be tired of me. 

“New ones are here. So that made me feel I want to help them.

“Of course I want to win another Premier League, another Champions League, but that is not the reason why I wake up in the morning. It’s not. It’s the process. It’s the journey.”

The City boss also says he will not have a say in who his replacement is when he does eventually leave the club.

“No,” he responded.

“I’m happy here, I want to stay here, what can I say? When the club, myself, or the results, because at the end it’s always the results, decide… It’s at the end of the chapter, the club will choose the best one, you know, to continue this incredible period in Manchester City.

“There have been the rumours for the last years many, many times. What can I say? I want to stay here. And at the end of the season, we’ll see.”
