Let’s try this again
Lane Kiffin is still in the market for a defensive line coach and a new name has emerged as the top target to fill that void.
According to FootballScoop, South Carolina’s Sterling Lucas is being targeted by LSU for the position of defensive line coach. Lucas currently serves as the defensive run game coordinator and coaches edges for Carolina.
Lucas has spent the past five years with the Gamecocks, turning Dylan Stewart and Bryan Thomas Jr. into All-SEC defenders this season, and coaching former Gamecock Kyle Kennard to the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year last season. Kennard had 15.5 TFLs and 11.5 sacks last season, while Stewart had 10.5 TFLs and 6.5 sacks as a true freshman.
Lucas also has experience coaching in the NFL. He was with the Baltimore Ravens from 2016 through 2020, and in 2021 he was an assistant defensive line coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Earlier this month it was reported that LSU was working on a deal with Syracuse defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson, but that apparently fell apart. Robinson is now looking at either reuniting with Matt Rhule in Nebraska, go back to Penn State, his alma mater, and lately his name has been linked to Texas A&M, where he served as defensive line coach for Jimbo Fisher.
