Broncos vs. Jags second quarter recap

Here is your second quarter recap from the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars game in Week 16.

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos offense responded to the Jacksonville Jaguars score at the end of the first quarter with a 33-yard catch and run to Evan Engram on the final play of that quarter and the first play of the Broncos next drive.

Nix would take a designed run for 12 yards on the first play of the second quarter, but Garett Bolles would commit his second false start penalty of the game on the second snap. An end-around by Marvin Mims Jr. would get a few of those yards back.

On second and 12, Nix found Sutton for seven to bring up a third and five inside the red zone. Nix went back to the Sutton well for another big play with a floater to him in the end zone for the game-tying touchdown.

Broncos 7, Jaguars 7.

The Broncos defense got the Jaguars into a third and 15 pretty quickly, then shut the door completely with yet another third down sack — this time from Malcolm Roach to force the third three-and-out in the game.

Nix seemed to be heating up with multiple dimes in the first half. Their next drive started with another to Marvin Mims Jr. for 26-yards to the Jaguars 42-yard line. The Broncos kept the tempo up with a hurry to the line, but pressure inside forced Nix to throw it away to avoid the sack. A quick pass outside to Pat Bryant who fought for more yards to bring up a third and two where RJ Harvey was stuffed for a loss of one.

Wil Lutz would redeem himself with a 54-yard bomb of a field goal to put the Broncos back out in front.

Broncos 10, Jaguars 7.

After a nice kickoff return, the Jaguars started from their own 41-yard line. Que Robinson got a pass breakup with a batted pass at the line. A quick pass outside to Brian Thomas did pick up nine on second down where they’d pick up the first down on the next play on a short dive forward by Lawrence.

A deep pass by tight end Brenton Strange who was wide open after beating Dre Greenlaw badly on the play. Riley Moss would help the next set of downs with a great open field tackle for a short loss on first down. Lawrence would then pitch it outside to Travis Etienne who was able to run for 24 yards due to some very poor tackling to setup a first and goal inside of the five yard line.

Brenton Strange then pushed off wildly to come open in the end zone for the Jaguars second touchdown and retaking of the lead.

Jaguars 14, Broncos 10.

With time enough for one more drive in the first half, Bo Nix and the Broncos offense began from their own 24-yard line after some outstanding coverage by the Jaguars on the kickoff.

A swing pass to Jaleel McLaughlin gained seven, then he picked up one on second down. Then on third and two, Nix hit RJ Harvey on a great designed route to pick up 16-yards and a first down. At the two minute warning, the Broncos would face a third and four after a short gain by Troy Franklin. Nix would throw it a bit behind Pat Bryant and he’d drop it to force the punt.

Jacksonville had plenty of time to put more points on the board before halftime. A deep pass for 25-yards to Jakobi Meyers got their drive going to get the ball out to their own 42-yard line. He went back to Meyers two plays later to get them across midfield for another first down.

That drive would lead to a Cam Little 47-yard field goal to end the half.

Jaguars 17, Broncos 10.
