Packers activate DE Collin Oliver

Green Bay will have an extra edge rusher moving forward.

The Green Bay Packers made a swap on their 53-man roster on Monday. The team placed tight end John FitzPatrick on the injured reserve, following his Achilles tear, and has activated defensive end Collin Oliver from the physically unable to perform list. Oliver missed all of camp with a hamstring injury, but had his 21-day practice window open up on December 1st. Today was the deadline to activate him, or the rookie fifth-round pick would have reverted to the injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

With the FitzPatrick injury, the Packers only have one healthy tight end on the roster, as Josh Whyle deals with a concussion, in Luke Musgrave. Head coach Matt LaFleur has stated that he and general manager Brian Gutekunst have “a plan” to address the position, though. Any addition of the tight end would need to come with a corresponding roster move.

Oliver is a speed-rusher, probably the closest player to the archetype that Green Bay has to Micah Parsons (he is not Micah Parsons, let me be clear.) If you want to read a full scouting report on Oliver, you can find that HERE.

Interesting, the Packers are up to seven defensive ends and six defensive tackles on the 53-man roster.
