Colby Covington is open to a rematch versus Tyron Woodley on the Real American Freestyle (RAF) mats.

Covington vs. Woodley was a major storyline for the Welterweight division for a number of years. As “Chaos” climbed the ranks, he repeatedly called out the champion with increasingly personal insults. After winning an interim belt by defeating Rafael dos Anjos in June 2018, Covington officially earned his dance with Woodley for undisputed gold. Unfortunately, Covington wasn’t prepared when the UFC came calling, so the promotion handed the shot to Kamaru Usman instead.

We all know how that went.

Covington finally faced a declining Woodley in Sept. 2020, winning clearly en route to a fifth-round injury stoppage. The beef wasn’t exactly settled though, and after Woodley’s knockout loss over the weekend to Anderson Silva (highlights here), Covington is offering Woodley his chance at revenge.

“Damn Woodley, how the mighty have fallen,” Covington said. “I know the people like to say ‘don’t kick a man while he’s down.‘ Personally, I say that’s the best time to kick a slime bag like you cause you’re easier to reach. You use to fight for championships, now you’re out there selling the last of your dignity taking beatings from YouTubers and geriatrics so you can pay off your baby mamas. You should be retired on a beach somewhere drinking Mai Tais. Instead, you’re face down, ass up in a boxing ring posing for Dude Wipes promos.

“I know you’ve got mouths to feed Woodley. I know your brand is at an all-time low. We all know you need the money. I’ve always been here to pick you up when you’re down Tyron, so let me help you one more time. Quit boxing — you never were a boxer. You were an All-American and Big 12 champion in wrestling. Come on over to Real American Freestyle and after I mop the mat with Luke Rockhold January 10th, you could take your chance at redemption.”

Given that Covington has lost two in a row and won just a single fight in the last four years, it could be argued that the “Chaos” brand is also at “an all-time low.” Perhaps that makes this the perfect timing for a rematch?

As Covington mentioned, he’ll next be facing Luke Rockhold atop the RAF 5 card on Jan. 10. Somehow, Covington is still ranked No. 14 in the UFC at 170-pounds, but he hasn’t fought in over a year and remains unbooked inside the Octagon. Perhaps he’s been too busy preparing for his incipient political career?
