Manchester United boss Marc Skinner has provided an update on Ella Toone, revealing the nature of the setback and when she is likely to return.
Toone injured
Toone was taken off in the 62nd minute of Sunday’s League Cup quarter-final comeback victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs took the lead through Drew Spence, but summer signing Jess Park restored parity early in the second half.
With five minutes of regular time left on the clock, Fridolina Rolfo bagged the winner to send United to the semis, where they will face Arsenal.
Toone was replaced by Lisa Naalsund when she was withdrawn.
Speaking to MUTV after the final whistle, Skinner revealed that Toone picked up a hamstring injury, which she will need a few weeks to recover from.

Skinner said, “Yeah, I’ve spoke to her. There’s a little sensitivity in the hamstring area, so it is right to come off at that point.”
“She’ll obviously wait, address, see where she is. She has a little break now to rest and recuperate with the family, so we’ll assess from there.”
The United head coach added, “There’s sensitivity in her hamstring, so we’ll assess as it settles down over the next few days.”
Unsurprisingly, Toone has been key to United’s strong form across competitions and their current fourth-place standing in the WSL standings.
The England international has featured in all 22 of United’s fixtures this term, notching three goals and a team-high eight assists.
She has especially formed a lethal partnership in the midfield with Park. United are next in action on January 10 when they take on Arsenal in the WSL.
