Alexander Isak Faces “Couple Of Months” On Sidelines Confirms Arne Slot

Isak suffered a leg break against Tottenham following a Micky van de Ven horror tackle.

Over the weekend, news emerged that Liverpool striker Alexander Isak had likely suffered a broken leg that would see the Sweden international and record signing out for a period of months, likely missing much of the second half of the season as a result.

Today at his press conference for Saturday’s Premier League game against Wolves, manager Arne Slot confirmed that Isak will indeed be out for months rather than days or weeks. On the positive side, though, it’s a timeline that means he could play again this season.

“It’s going to be a long injury,” Slot said. “For a couple of months. It’s a big, big disappointment for him and of course also for us. It’s been a really difficult period for him, I think. You join a new club and you want to show immediately all the qualities you have.

“But that was impossible. If you haven’t trained for three or four months on a serious level with a team and you’re playing in this league—in this league you need to be on the top of your game. So that took, which we all knew, months because there was no pre-season.

“We had hardly time to train so we always knew it would take time and that’s why he is so unlucky that he is now injured because I think we all saw with his goal against West Ham, with this goal Saturday, that he got closer and closer to the player he was at Newcastle.”

An expected two to three month layoff—and it’s likely to be towards the longer end before Isak is fit to train with teammates—could see Isak perhaps seeing the pitch again towards the end of March. At that point, though, he will be far short of being match fit and sharp.
