AuburnLB Robert Woodyard plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Woodyard had spent the last four seasons at Auburn. He, after playing sparingly as an underclassman, had gone on to make a total of 29 appearances, including 22 the past two seasons with a total of 11 starts this past season, for the Tigers.
While on The Plains, Woodyard posted 88 total tackles, 10.0 of those being for loss with 2.0 sacks, and a pair of deflections. That includes a career-best campaign this last season as a starting linebacker on their defense with 67 total tackles, 7.0 being for loss with both of his sacks, and a deflection, which earned him a nod as All-SEC First Team by those at Pro Football Focus.
A Mobile native, Woodyard played his high school football at Williamson. He ranked as a Top-175 overall recruit while there as a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He also rated as the No. 15 LB in the class and as a Top-10 player out of the state of Alabama. That’s according to Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’d then go on to commit to the Tigers as one of their highest-rated signees in what was a Top-20 class in ’22 according to Rivals’ Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, which’d be their final one under Bryan Harsin.
Now, Woodyard is the latest player from Auburn to announce his plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. That’s after the coaching change they’ve undergone there over the last two months since the firing of Hugh Freeze to open November and the hiring of Alex Golesh to open December.
Woodyard stuck around during the last coaching change at Auburn. He won’t be doing so again for a third, though, as he intends to spend his final year of eligibility elsewhere once his name officially enters the portal come the opening of the one-time, two-week window set to open on January 2nd.
