Could the New York Giants trade Jaxson Dart after some rough play in recent weeks, and replace him in the 2026 NFL Draft? A team insider explains why that is very unlikely.
This has been a disastrous season for the Giants as they enter the final two weeks of the season with a sad 2-13 record. However, if there was one thing worth watching throughout this miserable season, it has been rookie Jaxson Dart. The former Ole Miss star has electrified New York fans with his heart, grit, running skills, and passes.
However, in recent weeks, he has struggled. His passing yards and touchdown averages per game have been down significantly over the last few weeks. And the team has reeled in his running attempts as he has shown signs of being susceptible to concussions. It has brought into question whether he truly is the long-term fix at QB for the NY Giants.
Adding more fuel to those rumors and speculation is the fact that the Giants are in line to get the top overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Which means they can select the best signal caller available, and to many football analysts, that is Indiana QB, and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.
No Indication the NY Giants Will Try to Replace Jaxson Dart in NFL Draft
It was an idea posted to SNY Giants insider Connor Hughes on Thursday. While he admits he understands the speculation, he claimed “there is little indication the Giants are prepared to move on. Doing so would require trading Dart, drafting Mendoza, and hoping Mendoza shows even a fraction of what Dart demonstrated before he was injured in Chicago.”
In his opinion, Dart has done enough during his 10 starts this season. And it was a success at the highest level. Mendoza is still an unknown risk, like every prospect in the draft. Furthermore, Dart did it with limited weapons. So, for those fans who may hope they take Mendoza next April, it looks highly unlikely.
