Matias Vecino’s deflected effort had put Lazio in front, but they were furious at a controversial Udinese equaliser by Keinan Davis with the last kick of the game.
Maurizio Sarri’s rapport with the club was increasingly tense, but the team’s fighting spirit was revitalised by a three-match unbeaten run in which they had four red cards. Toma Basic and Matteo Guendouzi were therefore suspended, with Nicolò Rovella and Samuel Gigot injured, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Boulaye Dia at AFCON. At least Mattia Zaccagni returned from his ban, but Taty Castellanos was dropped. Udinese were shaken by a 5-1 defeat at Fiorentina, where Maduka Okoye was sent off in the opening minutes. The goalkeeper was suspended and replaced by 40-year-old Daniele Padelli, with Arthur Atta and Jordan Zemura injured, Rui Modesto and Vakoun Bayo at AFCON.

Tijjani Noslin hit a screamer in the opening minutes that clipped the outside of the upright from the edge of the box, while Nicolò Zaniolo saw his powerful strike deflected inches wide by Reda Belahyane.
Jurgen Ekkelenkamp nodded wide from Zaniolo’s assist and another Noslin strike was deflected over the bar, while on the stroke of half-time Noslin sprung the offside trap only for Kristensen to get back in time to make the block at the near post.

Matteo Cancellieri curled a finish wide after cutting inside from the right, then aimed another weak attempt at Padelli on a Luca Pellegrini through ball.
Udinese had penalty appeals, but Mario Gila seemed to head the deflected cross onto his own thigh more than his arm.

Gila was caught napping soon after on the edge of the box by a Hassane Kamara sliding tackle, setting up Davis to force a tricky save out of Provedel.
Lazio took the lead in curious circumstances, as Cancellieri found Matias Vecino well outside the area and the scuffed finish might not even have been on target, but Oumar Solet’s attempted block totally wrong-footed Padelli and deflected it into the near bottom corner.
Zaniolo’s free kick tested Provedel and Matteo Palma just failed to get on the end of a Zaniolo set play over the top, while Padelli stood his ground for a one-on-one save with substitute Gustav Isaksen in stoppages.
It proved crucial, because there was a huge twist with the last kick of the game. Zaniolo saw his effort charged down by teammate Davis, potentially with his arm, and the striker then kept the ball, cut inside and bent a left-foot finish into the far bottom corner from the edge of the area. Following a lengthy VAR check, the officials decided not to recommend the on-field review, so the goal stood and the final whistle was blown, much to Lazio’s fury.
