The Cleveland Browns have had a lot of home success recently versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Will Week 17 continue that?
The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers lock horns once again in Week 17 of the 2025 NFL season. Longstanding rivals, now a part of the AFC North, the Steelers hold an all-time lead in the series, 83-64-1 including a 2-1 record in playoff games between the two teams.
There was a long period of time, primarily during the Ben Roethlisberger era, that the Browns struggled to beat their division rival anywhere but especially at home in Cleveland. As noted in our “Need to Know” piece that comes out every week, since 2019, things have been different. Starting with a 21-7 victory on Thursday Night Football in Week 11 of the 2019 season, the Browns are 5-1 at home against the Steelers.
In the next five seasons, under HC Kevin Stefanski, the results have looked like this:
- 24-22 victory in Week 17 of the 2020 season
- 15-10 loss in Week 8 of the 2021 season
- 29-17 victory in Week 3 of the 2022 season
- 13-10 victory in Week 11 of the 2023 season
- 24-19 victory in Week 12 of the 2024 (the team’s final victory of the year)
On the other side of the ledger, Cleveland has not won a regular-season game on the road in Pittsburgh since 2003. Browns fans will be quick to point out that the team did win on the road against the Steelers in the 2020 playoffs.
With Week 17 mattering for the fate of the AFC North this year, Pittsburgh has a lot to play for on the road in Cleveland. The Browns have had a lot of success recently hosting the Steelers, but a win on Sunday could dramatically harm their 2026 NFL draft order positioning, especially with the two teams ahead of them having a strong tank-off game in Week 17.
Are you surprised at the recent success the Browns have had at home versus the Steelers? What do you think the outcome is in Week 17?
