A former Badger assistant is crossing the border
Minnesota head football coach P.J. Fleck is expected to hire Bobby April to replace C.J. Robbins as the Golden Gophers’ rush ends coach. The Pioneer Press’ Andy Greder was the first to report it.
April spent the last three seasons at Stanford as defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach. Robbins was promoted to defensive line coach earlier this month.
Prior to his tenure at Sanford, April spent five years across the border with Wisconsin as outside linebackers coach, where he developed NFL linebackers Andrew Van Ginkel, Nick Herbig, and Zach Baun. He coached as an assistant in the NFL for six years before returning to the college ranks with the Badgers.
April’s experience as a defensive coordinator could benefit Minnesota defensive play-caller Danny Collins, who appears set to return for his second year as the Gophers’ defensive coordinator.
