Bijan Robinson breaks Falcons single season record for scrimmage yards

Bijan passes the great William Andrews for scrimmage yards in a season, and still has one game to go.

In the midst of a great season, Bijan Robinson has managed to break a longtime franchise record, one that is not at all easy to break. In the third quarter of Atlanta’s Monday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Bijan exceeded 2,176 scrimmage yards, surpassing the great William Andrews’ 1983 mark. In the end, there will be no asterisk about it happening in a 17 game season versus a 16 game season; Bijan got it done in spectacular fashion with a pair of touchdowns and a career-long 93 yard touchdown run in the mix.

We knew Robinson had the talent to do this, but seeing him actually do it has been a joy. Players like Bijan, Julio Jones, and Andrews are the kind of once-in-a-decade talents the Falcons have been fortunate enough to have over the years, and they make great football better and bleak football easier to endure. It was fitting that he broke that record not on a short carry, but a play where he broke a tackle, made a defender miss, performed an otherworldly act of balance, and then picked up over 20 yards.

Chances are good Bijan will break many franchise records before his time in Atlanta is over, but this is a spectacular one, and one that tells the tale of a truly spectacular season. We wish it could have accompanied a winning year for the Falcons, but congratulations to Bijan and may this be just one of many great seasons in Atlanta to come.
