Another player to the portal.
We are only a few days away from the transfer portal opening on January 2nd, and Will Stein and the new Kentucky Wildcats staff have their work cut out for them to fill out their roster. That also means we will see some attrition from the current roster.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, freshman defensive lineman Javeon Campbell will enter the transfer portal on Friday.
Campbell, a 6-5 and 246-pound edge rusher out of Frankfort, was one of the headliners of the 2025 class for the Cats. A former 4-star player, he ultimately chose Kentucky over offers like Miami, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and plenty of others. So he should have a full market of teams fighting for his services as the portal window opens.
One of the strengths of this Kentucky team has been its defensive line. However, attrition at the edge position is a significant challenge. With Campbell now joining Steven Soles in the portal, it will be interesting to see if the Cats can add a player or two on the edge.
