Happy New Year to you and your Darrion Williams press conference questions

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Will Wade has been a little too much so far this season, overcooked for no apparent reason at all, whether that was when he was getting those silly technical fouls early on, or more recently getting On One after games—after games State won, for god’s sake! Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Will Wade has been a little too much so far this season, overcooked for no apparent reason at all, whether that was when he was getting those silly technical fouls early on, or more recently getting On One after games—after games State won, for god’s sake! Like, what purpose does this serve? I am baffled at the way he has conducted himself in postgame press conferences.

It’s a fair question, and also a mild one—it’s not editorializing, just nodding to another tough shooting performance. This is about as routine a question as I can imagine. Is there a reason why he’s got to walk into these things with a stick up his ass half the time? Can I just get like five minutes of milquetoast non-answers after a win I’m trying to enjoy and move on to the next game without having to be concerned that the coach is a distraction? It’s not even January, we’ve got a lot to get through.

This behavior feels forced and I’m just trying to figure out why he feels like it’s necessary. The man didn’t just get here as an unproven nobody; he’s got a good team, and the season is going fine. And here he is yelling about arguments that no one has made.

Can we relax a smidge here? Get coach a couple three spiked eggnogs before the end of the night (is it still spiked eggnog season?), and let’s all have a merry new year. The team beat the KenPom spread today, coach, doesn’t that make you happy? That makes me happy. I love it when that happens. I feel great when that happens, it’s very validating. Imagine what’s going to happen when Darrion Williams starts making shots again! (This would have been a good answer to that question, for the record.)
