Tonie Morgan hits game winning three to take down LSU 80-78

Tonie Morgan had the final say, drilling a game-winning three in the closing moments to lift Kentucky to a thrilling 80–78 victory over the Tigers.

BATON ROUGE, La. (FOX 56) — No. 11 Kentucky traveled to Baton Rouge to take on No. 5 LSU in its SEC opener.

The Tigers jumped out to a quick lead early, but the Cats answered back, taking a one-point advantage in the second quarter on a jumper from Clara Strack. From there, the game went back and forth, with both teams heading into halftime tied at 41.

Both Teonni Key and Strack led all scorers at the break with nine points, while Tonie Morgan followed closely behind with eight.

Much like the first quarter, LSU reclaimed the lead early in the second half and looked comfortable, but once again Kentucky answered. The Wildcats went on an 8–0 run to take a 77–75 lead with 1:18 remaining, while the Tigers were held scoreless for 3:47 forcing Kim Mulkey to call a timeout.

With 18 seconds remaining, Clara Strack was whistled for a foul on Mikaylah Williams behind the arc, sending Williams to the line for three free throws. Williams calmly knocked down all three to put LSU back in front, but Tonie Morgan had the final say, drilling a game-winning three in the closing moments to lift Kentucky to a thrilling 80–78 victory over the Tigers.
