Germany's Coletta Rydzek will not compete in Saturday's Tour de Ski sprint race on the course for next month's Olympics in Italy for health reasons.

The German Ski Federation (DSV) said on Friday that Rydzek had withdrawn from the Tour de Ski due to a sore throat. It spoke of a precaution in order to avoid a flu ahead of the Milan/Cortina Games which open on February 6.

Rydzek came second in the first sprint stage of the Tour de Ski on Saturday, which was the first podium for the German team this season.

The Tour concludes on Saturday and Sunday in Val di Fiemme, where the Olympic cross country races will be held. Rydzek was ranked 42nd in the Tour after Thursday's 20 kilometres stage stage.
