The Badgers are getting their top target on campus as the transfer portal opens.
The transfer portal is officially open, and the Wisconsin Badgers have a good group of visitors coming in over the weekend and next week.
Among that group? Old Dominion transfer quarterback Colton Joseph, who will take a visit to Wisconsin starting on Friday.
Joseph, a redshirt sophomore this past season, broke out for Old Dominion as their starter, throwing for 2,624 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while running for 1,007 yards and 13 touchdowns on 6.4 yards per carry.
He’s been a significant interest for the Badgers at the quarterback position, and Wisconsin will hope to secure a commitment here, but there is outside interest, notably from the Florida State Seminoles.
Joseph fits the dual-threat quarterback mold that offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes is looking for, being one of the more dynamic dual-threat options at quarterback in the FBS last year. He’s also good at avoiding sacks and extending plays, which will be key.
Accuracy is a question mark, as Joseph completed less than 60 percent of his passes in both of the last two years, but the Old Dominion quarterback looked to stretch the field, averaging over 15 yards per completion this past season.
A redshirt sophomore, Joseph has two years of eligibility left and would be a good start for the Badgers at the quarterback position this offseason when considering their targets. It’s also notable that several Old Dominion wide receivers have entered the transfer portal, so perhaps a commitment from the quarterback could entice one of those players to also join Wisconsin.
