Manchester United have pulled the trigger on Ruben Amorim in the wake of their 1-1 draw at Leeds United.
After dropping points in back-to-back games, the Portuguese tactician seemingly took aim at the club’s hierarchy, challenging them to let him do his job without interference.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming there was growing tension between Amorim and Jason Wilcox, who is United’s director of football, over the former’s predictable tactics.
On Monday, United announced Amorim has departed his role as the head coach of United.
Early today, The Athletic reported that “the decision has been arrived at by the club’s leadership team, including chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, after a breakdown in relations behind the scenes.”
However, as per The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst, United claim “there have been no power struggles and that Amorim has been sacked as they have not seen enough signs of evolution or progress.”
Amorim, who left Sporting CP for United in November 2024, departs Old Trafford with just 15 wins in 47 Premier League matches in charge of the Red Devils.
United also stress that the club’s hierarchy and Amorim were on the same page during the summer transfer window.
The Premier League giants spent around £250m to help Amorim implement his 3-4-3 system.
Luckhurst adds that the Portuguese “backed move to sign three forwards in the summer and not strengthen midfield.”
However, the now former United head coach was keen on bringing in a midfielder this month whereas Ineos’ preference was to strengthen the area in the summer.
