Atlanta Braves news and notes from Wednesday
Well Mark Bowman wrote a good article on the status of the Braves’ search for starting pitching to add this offseason. It was interesting that he seemed to think that non-qualifying offer free agents or perhaps select non-top-tier trade options are the more likely avenues. Freddy Peralta is a hot commodity and has been covered a decent bit, but Jose Berrios is an off-the-beaten-path option that might be up Alex Anthopoulos’ alley and has an interesting profile. Berrios has struggled since joining Toronto, but was previously a reliable mid-rotation option in Minnesota. He has one year left on his contract at $19 million, with an opt-out before 2 years at $24 million each. That opt-out is surely something that Alex Anthopoulos would want to resolve somehow in a trade scenario before finalizing any deal. That said, Berrios would seem highly unlikely to require much trade capital to acquire, which might make him an appealing buy-low candidate at still only 31. Time will tell which route Anthopoulos chooses.

Mark Bowman wrote about Atlanta’s pursuit of a starting pitcher, throwing cold water on some of the top free agents, while promoting Chris Bassitt and Freddy Peralta as more likely options and Jose Berrios as a wild-card.
The Braves are once again experiencing some uncertainty regarding their TV deal. They could find themselves on a different channel or platform, or suffer loss of revenue.

The Rockies signed Michael Lorenzen to a one year $8 million deal, with a $9 million club option to be a starting pitcher for the club.
The Cubs traded top prospect Owen Caissie and two other prospects for Edward Cabrera from the Marlins, perhaps the most significant trade of the offseason as of yet.
The Yankees have made multiple offers for Cody Bellinger to return to the club, but the sides do not appear close to an agreement.
