Dontayvion Wicks, who serves as a rotational receiver for the Green Bay Packers, was unable to pass concussion protocol.
It appears that Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks was unable to pass the NFL’s concussion protocol. Wicks, who went down early against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, missed Week 18’s action and was listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against the Chicago Bears in the wild card round. Wicks was a limited participant throughout the week, but head coach Matt LaFleur stated in press conferences that Wicks had not yet fully passed through the protocol.
Beyond Wicks, the Packers have five questionable players on their injury report this week, after making nearly 30 transactions (or over 30, depending on how you count them) over the last two weeks to make up for their injury situation. Those questionable players are quarterback Malik Willis (shoulder/hamstring), right tackle Zach Tom (back/knee), defensive lineman Warren Brinson (foot), linebacker Nick Niemann and safety Javon Bullard (knee).
LaFleur has previously stated that Willis will be available this week, along with confirming that Bullard is “okay” after his injury. Tom was also a player that LaFleur said the expectation was that he would play, but he missed Thursday’s practice with a rest day, a sign that the tackle potentially had a setback.
Niemann was called up from the injured reserve this week. If he can’t go, expect practice squad linebacker Jamon Johnson to take his place on special teams. Brinson is a bit of an unknown, as he was able to finish the game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18. It was a surprise that he was listed as questionable during yesterday’s final injury report of the week.
Without Wicks, the Packers will have Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden and Jakobie Keeney-James available at the receiver position against the Bears. Five is a low number to carry on gameday at the position, at least for Green Bay, but with the potential of Johnson and a tight end (Packers only have two on the 53-man roster) coming up from the practice squad to play on Saturday, the potential to add a sixth receiver as the roster stands now is limited.
